Seeking to hire a PhD/DPhil qualified bioinformatics expert

to lead a state-of-the-art Bioinformatics Core Facility

at a Translation Research Institute in Doha.

In this role: You will collaborate with a team of scientific and clinical researchers, providing bioinformatics expertise, support and training. You will be responsible for curating and analyzing diverse raw datasets, conducting data mining and enabling cutting-edge discoveries in biological research. This is an unique opportunity to shape a cutting -edge Bioinformatics Core Facility.

 

Job Requirements: 

International candidate not currently working in Qatar.

 

Essential Education:

PhD or DPhil Degree in Bioinformatics, System Biology, Computational Biology, Mathematical Biology, or a related field.

 

Essential Research & Publications:

  • Proven expertise in bioinformatics research.
  • Strong publication record in high-impact journals.

 

Essential experience:

5+ years in research field out of which 3 years as post doctoral role in a academic, clinical or healthcare industry.

 

Proficiency and experience in:

  • Data analysis, programming and scripting languages such as R/Bioconductor, Python and C/C++
  • NGS Technologies: Whole genome, exome, RNA-seq, scRNA-seq.
  • Building data pipelines for transcriptomic analysis.
  • Genomic data formats.
  • Mass-spectrometry data analysis, proteomic and metabolomic data interpretation.

 

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Interest in immunology, molecular biology, genetics or cancer research.
  • Analyzing biological imaging data and improving workflows with tools like ImageJ.
  • Knowledge of SQL and experience in databases.

Package

 

Overseas Open Ended Contract with Family sponsorship now available for international Males & Females.

Contract  Period: Open ended.

Basic Salary: The offered amount is the discretion of the employer. 

Market Allowance: % of basic salary.

Monthly Professional Allowance: % of basic salary.

Transport Allowance: 1250 QAR per month.

Mobile Allowance: 300 QAR per month. 

Accommodation: Provided.

Annual Leave: 50 calendar days per year.

Schooling Assistance: 21 000 QAR (maximum) (up to 3 children) per child per academic year up to (ages from 5-18 years and provided that they are studying in private schools in Doha). Payment will be made upon submission of the appropriate receipts and will cover basic tuition fee only (provided that you obtained residence permit for them under your sponsorship).

Air Passage Entitlement: Air passage/flight ticket for self and family - up to 3 children up to 18 years old, on joining, annual leave & repatriation (provided that he/she obtained residence permit for them under his/her sponsorship).

Baggage Allowance: Unaccompanied baggage for yourself - up to 50 kg and family up to 200 kg on joining, and 100kg for self and 250 kg for family on  repatriation, to be reimbursed at standard rate. 

The salary package offered is determined by the employer, not GMR.

 Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and manage a Bioinformatics Core Facility that serves researchers across multiple disciplines.

• Provide comprehensive bioinformatics support, including data curation, processing, and advanced analysis of high-dimensional biological datasets.

• Design and deliver bioinformatics training and mentorship to scientific and clinical researchers.

• Collaborate with research teams to analyze various types of data, including next-generation sequencing (NGS), proteomics, metabolomics, and other omics data.

• Develop, maintain, and optimize bioinformatics pipelines for RNA-seq, whole genome, whole exome sequencing, and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq).

• Work with publicly available genomic datasets and file formats (e.g., FASTA, FASTQ, BAM/CRAM).

• Analyze mass spectrometry-based proteomic and metabolomic data, including preprocessing, differential analysis, functional annotation, and biomarker discovery.

• Visualize complex biological data using appropriate tools (e.g., ggplot2) to create heatmaps, scatter plots, and other graphical outputs.

• Stay current with the latest bioinformatics software and tools, testing and integrating them into the core facility’s workflows.

• Collaborate with principal investigators (PIs) and researchers to define software needs, implement solutions, and provide bioinformatics expertise in experimental design and statistical interpretation.

• Liaise with non-computational researchers to provide bioinformatics insights and guidance in project design and data interpretation.

• Ensure accurate tracking of project data and reporting of outcomes to management.

• Present findings and contribute to the publication of high-impact journals.
